Corps of Army Music (CA Mus)
Former WO1(GSM) Peter Padley MBE
The Corps of Army Music was formed in 1994 following The Options for Change Review.
The Corps consists of 22 regular bands and The Band of The Brigade of Gurkhas with The Corps being centred on the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall, Twickenham.
The primary role of The Corps is to provide music of a high quality to any event requiring musical support. However, it is little known that The Corps has an operational capability in support of Army Medical Services.
These capabilities include general duties in Field Hospitals including chemical decontamination of casualties. They can also be called upon to perform driving duties, guard key installations and guard prisoners of war (POW’s).
Those wishing to join the Corps of Army Music have to attend a two day audition at the Royal Military School of Music.
There is no Corps uniform. All musicians wear the uniform of the Regiment or Corp to which their band is affiliated.
