I tried to join the army in 2008 as an officer, got a category 1 at the Westbury selection centre and was then turned down due to eczma, they said this is army standard. I then went home pretty down about it all and didnt even think to try the Marines, pretty stupid of me.
Is it the same in the Royal Marines? I want to try but do not want to face the same disappointment.

I joined the Corps in 1983 and the same holds true now as it did then. Give 100%. After 13 years service and 10 years on from then in 2007 I managed to still complete 100 sit ups in 2 mins, 85 press ups and 18 over hand pull ups whilst competing in the World Police & Fire Games. I came middle of the field and there were blokes 10 years older much fitter. You are only restricted by your mind.
Think big, push hard and believe. Good luck

Hmm, I am fine with the running. But I gave a practice yesterday: 62 situps in 2 minutes, and I can do 7/8 pullups. However I got up to 42 when it came to press ups and I heard the minimum is 50. Would this score be enough to cut it or with a few months training could I meet the standard?

Royal Marines are expected to pass the tests with flying colours, simply scraping by doesn't cut it in the Corps.
Pays to be a winner fellas

Cheers for the comment dreme.
Ive heard people online saying that the sores ive stated below are what you need for maximum points, and some people are saying the scores are put together to get an overall score rating. All I would say is work your arse off before joining and if you can achieve what I said in the earlier post then you should be covered. All the best!

I attended my appointment today (2nd March 2011) at the Royal Marines careers office in Luton.
I too asked specifically what needs to be achieved to be eligable for the royal marines commando 32 week training. He stated the exact same for the 2 x 1.5 mile runs as shown at the top of this page, however he said 60 tricep press ups, and either 60 or 80 situps need to be achieved. You have 2 minutes per exercise to complete these amounts. He mentioned something about an obstacle course but my memory cant remember too much about that so i dont want to write anything about it just in case im wrong.
The best thing to do is call them and get a time booked to see them. When i did it i sat with about 8 wannabe commandos and watched a dvd for 30mins explaining benefits, career prospects etc. After that the 2 marines came back into the room and gave a quick presentation and answered any questions. No question is a stupid one.
In all it took about 40 mins. It is then optional if you would like to have a private chat with the marine to ask any further questions. I did and its definately worth while if you have any doubts, or just want an application.
Absolutely 0 paper work was filled out and nothing was signed. After all i have written you then have the option to take or leave the application forms to fill out another day and post in the freepost envelope provided.
I hope this has been helpfull to you lot.

The article above is going to be replaced within the next couple of days. Look at the PJFT requirement and concentrate on passing it. The criteria is not impossible but you need to be able to pass the tests to get to PRMC.
You are being assessed all the time at PRMC. Day 2 is 'Team Work' day. The fitter you are the better you will perform. You need to be able to encourage, not abuse, and help those who are not as fit as you.
Read up on the history of The Royal Marines - you will be asked about it.
The main thing to remember is TRY YOUR HARDEST. High scores will be 'set against' those tests you didn't do so well and hopefully carry you through to the end result.
Remember - fitness is a frame of mind. I used to train alone - I only had myself to beat and self determination made me succeed.
If you want to get back to me with any queries then please do so - if I can help I will.
Best of luck,
Peter
