General Allowances for Service Personnel
HMForces.co.uk
There are a wide variety of allowances to make up for expenses that service personnel may have to pay out in the course of their duties. The following is a summary of the type of benefits that are available, but you will need to check with your HR department as to whether they are applicable to your specific situation.

Help to get onto the Property Ladder
You may be entitled to Long Service Advance of Pay (LSAP), which is an interest free loan to help you buy a property if you currently don’t own one, or to modify your home to meet changing personal circumstances.
The qualification status for this varies between the Services. Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel need to have been accepted onto the trained strength, while Army and RAF personnel need to have served for four years after completion of Phase One training.
Clothing Allowances
There are a number of clothing and uniform allowances to recompense you for extra costs you may incur in specific conditions:
• Female Clothing Grant (FCG) – Non-commissioned women are entitled to this one off payment towards the cost of items of clothing that are not issued to you, but are required as part of your uniform. These can include tights and petticoats.
• Uniform Provision and Grants for Officers contribute towards the purchase and upkeep of uniforms, and where applicable, warm weather clothing.
• Civilian clothing allowances are available for non-commissioned personnel who need to wear civilian clothing on duty. Payment depends on the period of time they need to wear their civilian clothes.
