Christopher Lee

Surprisingly, this acting veteran who has starred in more than a hundred films worldwide recieved his Knighthood for services to British art and culture rather late on in his career. Perhaps it’s due to the fact that he is so well known for portraying baddies!!

Unforgettable as Count Dracula in many of the original Hammer films he has also portrayed other memorable evil characters in James Bond, The Wicker Man, The Three Musketeers, and more recently in Peter Jackson’s adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings Trilogy in which Lee played Saruman the evil Wizard. He also appeared in the Stars Wars Prequels as a Sith Lord.

Christopher Lee served in the RAF and with military intelligence during WW2 serving as an intelligence officer with the Long Range Desert Group and travelled to Italy and North Africa on special operations against desert Wehrmacht.

He retired from service after the War and went on to carve himself his own special place in British cinema history.
