Spike Milligan was one of the most important influences on British comedy of the last century and while he was famous for the Goon Show, he wrote a number of books covering his war memoirs from his time serving with an army heavy regiment of the Royal Artillery in Tunisia and Italy.
It was at this time that he met up with fellow Goons Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe both of whom were also serving in the armed forces.
Still today his humour, and that of his colleagues is enjoyed by contemporary audiences, more so by British Forces whom find his black humour particulary enjoyable.
He made a cameo appearance in Monty Python’s Life Of Brian
in 1979 as an abandoned prophet.
He also managed to have the last laugh by having ‘I told you I was ill’ written in Gaelic on his tombstone.

I love the Goon show. Timeless comedy and appeals to my juvenile sense of humour!
