Sean Connery
Modern Aston Martin favoured by Connery's character Bond
It may not be such a surprise that most people’s favourite James Bond, Sean Connery, served in the Royal Navy after enlisting at the age of 16.
Perhaps it was this experience that helped him portray Bond’s character who was a Commander in the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve (in the books) or a Commander in the Royal Navy (in the films!).
However, Sean Connery left the Navy after three years due to chronic stomach ulcer problems. Ironically he went on to star in several war films such as The Longest Day, The Hill, The Man Who Would Be King, and A Bridge Too Far. His last film appearance was in the fantasy adventure film The Extraordinary League of Gentleman in 2003.
Connery was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in July 2000.
