Asking for Assurances that PTSD and Other Concerns Are Recognised and Dealt With
Chris Robbins | HMForces.co.uk
I live for today and look to tomorrow. Believe me it’s the only way.
I have written to my MP Keith Simpson, and have also lobbied David Cameron, and asked for an assurance that service men and women will be given the best support should they suffer from PTSD, better equipment, housing, pay, and welfare from a future Conservative Government. To date I’ve had assurances, but nothing concrete in writing.
Pinning politicians down, is harder than hitting a moving target. They are also adept at moving the goalposts. My Mother of 87, probabably one of the oldest QA retired Officers, is joining in the cause. She served in North Africa with Monty, and nursed Japanese POW’s, and knows only too well about PTSD.
I have no faith in this current Government whatsoever. Anyone who proposed giving £10,000 to Irish Terrorists, and cannot adequately look after their own service personnel who represent the finest young men and women in the country from all kinds of backgrounds, doesn’t bear thinking about.
As yet I have not received a reply from my MP. Given the very understandable, public reaction, to “Gravy Train expenses”, this is hardly a surprise! However like Joanna Lumley, but by no means as attractive (I look like a cross between Sean Woodward and Keith Wood), my nickname in the Prison service, where I worked as a Medic, was “Doctor Evil”. I have no intention of giving up on this issue.
But I’m fighting a war on two fronts – and have also contacted UKNDA – The UK National Defence Association, trying to drum up support.
I shall keep you posted on developments, and any help will be very much appreciated.
