Commando Logistics Regiment (CLR)
Sea King helicopter of 22 Squadron
Former WO1(GSM) Peter Padley MBE
Formed in 1971 The Commando Logistics Regiment is the only Amphibious Logistics Regiment available to the UK Armed Forces.
The Regiments primary task is to provide the essentials of ammunition, water and fuel, commonly known as combat supplies (c-sups), to Commando Forces for the initial 30 days of any deployment on exercise or operations. The ability of The Regiment to transfer stores from ship to shore makes it a totally self-sufficient organisation.
When not deployed on operations Commando Log is based at the former Royal Air Force Station at Chivenor, near Barnstaple.
Without the expertise supplied by the ‘loggies’ the ability of the forward troops to meet their aims and objectives could be severely degraded, even leading to failure. Commando Logistics excelled in its operational role during the Falklands Campaign and on Operation HAVEN in Northern Iraq and on other operations where it has been deployed.
