The Royal Engineers

The Royal Engineers

Former WO1(GSM) Peter Padley MBE

The Corps of Royal Engineers claim unbroken service to the Crown since William the Conqueror brought engineers over from France to build forts and castles.
They have taken part in every battle fought by the British Army and have used their skills in both war and peace, especially in humanitarian activities.

In the Royal Engineers of today there is little they are not prepared to turn their hands to. They are highly skilled tradesmen and operatives and willing to take on any task in support of either military operations or aid to the civil community.

The specialised equipment available to the Royal Engineers allows them to provide mobility support to the combat and support arms of the Army by laying or building bridges, including amphibious crossings, laying trackway or clearing safe lanes through minefields.

The demands of the Royal Engineers are immense but they always rise to the challenge under all conditions.
