Education Benefits Before Joining the British Armed Forces

The British Armed Forces run a number of different college training schemes. You can either:
• Sign up as a school leaver and take residential training while in the military
• Be sponsored to take A-Levels and a degree to join with specialised knowledge, or as an officer
• Apply for a places at a Service Six Form College to take A-levels and a sponsored degree
• Join with a ‘Golden Hello’ if you are already qualified in subjects that are in great demand in the Armed Forces. See more information in our Golden Hellos section
Welbeck – The Defence Sixth Form College
If you are considering a career as an Engineer or Medical Officer in the Armed Forces you should consider applying to Welbeck, the Defence Sixth Form College It is a residential college in Woodhouse near Loughborough in Leicestershire that provides specialised A-levels for students planning to be Engineers or Medical Officers after university.
The course lasts two years and while maths and physics are compulsory, there are a range of other subjects to choose from. You will also learn about leadership, teamwork, respect and loyalty, and have access to an impressive array of sporting facilities. All students are also part of the Combined Cadet Force so they experience military training activities and a range of adventurous training pursuits.
