The British Army has a long and distinguished history, not to mention a very complicated hierarchy for the army Regiments and Corps. This section summarises the history and the functions of the different aspects of the modern British Army.

Hi Vivienne,
Contact the Veterans Agency - you can Google them - and have a look round their site. If you have your grandfathers regimental number it will make things easier.
Hope this helps,
Peter

His auntie is needing to get in touch with him as his mother is poorly and is in hospital his name is Micheal Ryan i dont know which regiment he was in but his last known address is somewhere in the Midlands. He joined the army at the age of 18 i know its a long shot but if anyone could help it would be most helpfull.

I served 12 years with 2nd regt RA, I now realise I should have stayed in the army. I didn't realise how much I would miss it, the bond between your comrades & buddies is as strong as family. I can guarantee, you'll find nothing like it in civey street. I haven't.

Hi Andy86, the best advice I can give you is to go along to your nearest Careers Office, RN (which includes the Royal Marines), Army or RAF. You can access a list of Careers Offices online. Phone and make an appointment so that you do not waste your time.
First impressions count - so wear appropriate clothing and have a tidy haircut.
All the best.
