Step 6: Get the Best Job
Training for the Territorial Army (TA)
Basic Training
The Basic Training is both challenging and rewarding and will teach you how to become an effective soldier. It includes physical fitness, weapon handling, field craft, map reading, as well as military terminology, drill and how to wear your uniform.
In Regional Units the basic training is spread over several weekends finishing with a residential two week course at an Army training establishment. Basic Training takes around a year to complete.
In National Units the training may be delivered in the same way as in the Regional Units or in two centralised two-week courses, and takes between one to two years.
In both units the final two week course finishes with a series of confirmatory tests and a Passing Out Parade, in front of your family and friends.
Trade Training
Of course Basic Training is just the start. When you have the necessary skills to function efficiently within the Army you need to learn your trade. The choice of your trade is down to the requirements of your unit and your own skills and preferences. This might be something that utilises your existing skills or you might decide to learn completely new skills.
Adventurous Training
You’re not likely to join the TA so you can sit around and read books! Sport and adventure is an important part of life in both the Regular and Territorial Army. It improves fitness, team skills and confidence as well as being good fun. Activities such as canoeing, climbing, sailing, skiing and trekking can take place either in the UK or abroad.

@tony it doesn't matter. Your local unit can still help you apply for infantry driver/gunner. But at some point you may have to go to Brighton although it's worth a try to your local first. Might save you some time (if you haven't already!).

I'm in the process of joining the ta, I've herd conflicting things as to how long training takes, the local ta office say I can put training together to qualify sooner rather than it spread out over time. I'm wondering if this is true, does it also apply to trade training?

Go on have a read as YOU may find it interesting.
Well you probably clicked on this site because;
1. your nose was getting the better of you
2. your interested in what goes on in the Territorial Army (TA)
3. you want to change your lifestyle but need a little push.................... well read on
All YOU need to do to is take the first step and once you have done that you will never look back, move your left and right feet forward and get yourself down to the nearest Army Careers Centre even if its just to get some information on it as the staff are very approachable and informative, it will certainly open your eyes for a better future with self confidence, respect for yourself and others and much much more that you never thought you had in you.
If you do take this step let me know how you got on and I will keep you informed of any changes or help you may need during your first couple of steps also if you need any more help during trainning in any aspect I would be glad to answer any questions,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Get down there and "be the Best"
