The Diary of a Navy Wife
Sunday 21st June 2009
Our last day as a family but only for a week as hubby is going to Poole to get equipment for the Armed Forces day.I think this is the first time since we have been together that he has got his kit ready a few days ago instead of his last night at home. Monday 22nd June 2009
He left this morning. It was nice as he got the chance to say bye to our daughter who had just woken up before he was about to leave. My busy week starts now with mum and toddler groups, meetings, courses and play dates.
Will be off to the toddler group this morning and dance class and a play date with friends this afternoon.
Hubby’s been trying to ring all afternoon but the signal keeps going and then with the noise of the landing craft and the sound of wind it makes it really hard to hear anything he is saying.
I can’t see me getting used to these early mornings. I am so used to having everything done before I wake up as hubby gets our daughter ready. I am not a morning person at all, well, until I have been awake for about a hour. Looks like I have to make my own cup of tea only got another nine years to teach our little princess how to make mummy a cup of tea and breakfast in bed.
A quiet day today shopping and then off to nanny and granddad’s for the afternoon. I am so lucky to have family around me for support as many forces families aren’t that lucky to be living so close to family. It is easy to fall in the trap of becoming withdrawn if you’re around people you don’t know, this is why it’s best to try to meet other people if you are far from family and friends.
I am so looking forward to tonight’s TV – I can watch all my soaps without hubby moaning though them!!! Finally heard from him down from Poole but the signal is still crap.
Going to a friend’s coffee morning today – the weather is looking lovely and is very hot. When I was there my daughter, but I can’t resist calling her my ‘little princess’ sometimes, decided to drown my mobile phone in their swimming pool. I’’m gutted. Only got the phone in February so I have to spend £80 on a new one and sim card. I am now wondering what else is going to go wrong, they do say it runs in threes.
This afternoon little princess has got another play date. She has a better social life then I do and she is only a year old.
After a busy day, she’s in bed and I’m left with the TV but there’s only crap on, nothing engaging to take my mind off things. I’m starting to feel a bit lonely, think I will go outside for a cigarette and talk to my neighbour. Looks like an early night with a good chick flick.
Thursday 25th June 2009Hubby is coming home tonight, a day early. Little princess is excited running around shouting ‘daddy home’. Going to toddler group again this morning and then to a meeting this afternoon hoping the crèche will tire out as she’s full of energy.
Starting to get excited myself now that I have missed him, even though it feels like he has only done a weekend duty.
Friday 26th June 2009Hubby came home 2.30am this morning so we are having a chilled out day with just the three of us before my big night out tonight.
Saturday 27th June 2009Recovering from last night. It was a friend’s birthday and we all went to a chocolate shop to make sweets but with lots of wine included – what a great night. Navy wives and wine do not mix. The Royal Navy is starting to turn us into alcoholics.
Taking little princess up to the base to watch some Royal Marines practice for the Armed Forces day. They’re doing the fast roping but she is more interested in the park.
Sunday 28th June 2009 ARMED FORCES DAYToday little princess is going to the zoo with nanny and granddad while hubby and I are going to sea on the landing craft.
Wow what a fantastic day when we got to the dockyard I thought he was joking when he told me there will be lots of climbing. I had to climb over two landing crafts to get to his. I thought I was going to fall into the water, I bet the whole dockyard was laughing watching me freak out. It was funny though.
As soon as we set sail it was so interesting seeing what they do and how things worked on board and then there was the highlight of the day watching the marines fast rope from the Halo above us to the landing craft, and then watching HMS Monmouth doing the gun salute. It was also nice seeing people up on Plymouth Hoe supporting our armed forces.
