Posted over 2 years ago I have seen a similar thread to this on other sites and it worked quite well, lets see if it takes off here. All you have to do is list the sights and smells that have stuck in your memory from your Forces days.
Wet cam nets and hessian (can smell it now!). The smell of cordite. Your first time firing a weapon on the ranges. Swarfega (hand cleaner). Black fingers from bulling. The sickly smell of that yellow floor polish and the bumper. Shrinking your beret. Two-tone lightweights and sewn in creases. The smell of hexy blocks. The smell of CS on your noddy suit and mask. Ah the good old days, the list is endless, there will be more ........................

| Posted over 2 years ago The smell of Exhaust fumes and fags in the back of a four tonner.. Yuck The first time you fired live...if it was a SLR of course.. first time you stood proud in your number 2 dress... first time you tasted bacon grill too many to post here..great thread dreme cheers!

Egg banjos in the cookhouse at midnight in Fort George, Derry. The whine of a L/R tyre on a tarmac road. Compo sausages (I`d kill for them lol). Batt./Sqn/LAD bars on a Friday afternoon. Yellow handbags. Pink PT shirts lol. Sorry, I could go on forever!

| Posted over 2 years ago Chinese wedding cake - (rum in rice pudding served pipping hot the smell of a set of gortex you forgot to air after End Ex and take out about a month or two later Pizza hut/ Subway/ Burger king at the COB on route back to Camp Charlie... trying to keep warm on the top mount in a Wimk in an Afghan winter. trying to stop being first to be drunk in a joint Officers & Sgt mess social night trying not steal when told by a very trusting RAF storeman "can you keep an eaye here till i get a quick pee" and failing to be honest the smell of AVGAS

| Posted over 2 years ago Pack lift in the pouring rain on Soltau Taking 6 hours driving back to location which was only 10 KMs away (no hurry!) camming up :-( Visiting the Reeperbahn on a day off on Ex. Securing Chieftains to trains with bits of wood and nails. Two day rail trip from Soltau to Münster. Missing out on a replen, again and again!
