| Posted about 1 year ago Hi thatsamkid! This isn't my area of expertise but I'm sure someone can help you. Best advice I can give is ring your local AFCO and ask them. My question is why do you want to become a sniper and how much do you know about it already? All the best! Never give up, never quit, if you havent bled you haven't earnt it. |

| Posted about 1 year ago as far as I recall and this was 20 odd years ago - you don't choose - you are chosen - only the best shots are chosen for this. this isn't ordinary war fare it is one to one - you are told a target - you aim - fire and kill that person - near misses are not acceptable - dreme - know a little on this one - it is what my son did |

| Posted about 1 year ago First, its not all about shooting......other skills required and lots of them... er....i think that Snipers have a somewhat diff, role today.....and the training will reflect this.... drop a PM to Cerianrecce. think he would be able to give you the main phases of training..... better to PM him next week as he is busy just now. as for joining the Marines....better talk to bootneck, he's the lad for the Royals... | Posted about 1 year ago Its about shooting, but more other things are needed apart from being a good shot! The Marksmanship princibles give a basic guide to what's needed! Good fieldcraft skills are paramount, like good cam, positioning, and good patrol skills to the actual position itself are very important. Sniping is about good all round infantry skills with the added shooting skills! Also you have to be fit, robust and adaptable to be able to hump a lot of kit around and to be able to lay up for sometimes days or weeks on end and have that patience and self disipline to see it through and then take that one perfect shot and make a kill.....A challenging and exciting role!!!! |

You will find anything worth while in the forces takes hard graft, good luck with what ever option you choose. |

| Posted about 1 year ago As an ex-sniper I have read the previous comments. in general I agree with them. But I feel that they have forgotten one major part of being a sniper, and that is the mental state you must have. Here are a few questions that you should ask yourself first: 1. Am I able to take a life in cold blood. 2. how would I re-act seeing a man's brains spray out behind his head through your scope. 3. Do I really like my on company in long stretch's of time. 4. Am I willing to lay in my own sweat, faeces and smell for up to three days. 5. Would I feel a great satisfaction in doing the job after the mission. 6. How would I feel about the people around me disliking intensley, eventually. |

Its all apart of the job, enyone who joins knows this 2. how would I re-act seeing a man's brains spray out behind his head through your scope. Guess its something you have to get used to 3. Do I really like my on company in long stretch's of time. Yes, no disractions 4. Am I willing to lay in my own sweat, faeces and smell for up to three days. im gona have to be 5. Hi Patrice, welcome to the site! It's good to have another serviceman on here for the gen! I'm wondering a few things through, I saw this on your profile. 1969 - 1979 Served 9yrs with the colours, with tours of Northern Ireland (6),. 2 tours in Germany, 1 in Berlin and the othier in Fallingbostel. 1979 - 1982 This was followed by a year in Rhodesia with 1. Sioux Scouts, I then moved into South Africa and worked with 2. 42 Buffalo recce pltn. 1982 - 1991 I engaged in the French Foriegn Legion, where I served in 3.French Guyane, South of France, and terminated my service after the Gulf War. I say war because for the French contingent (Dageut Div). That conflict was on a war footing. 1991 - Present Civvie Street, and wish to get back to full time employment ASP...." 1. Are these the guys who were around in Custers time? 2. do you mean 32 buffalo recce pltn? 3. I'm slightly confused with this one? I'm lead to believe this was in South America, not South of France? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Guiana Seems a strange set of mistakes to make. Anyway, I'm sure you can clarify it for us. All the best! Never give up, never quit, if you havent bled you haven't earnt it. |

| Posted about 1 year ago I was going to let this lie but I can't, it's not fair on someone genuinely interested in this trade. Thatsamkid, I appoligise for my previous reply, it wasn't accurate. I won't take credit for the following, another member brought it to my attention. patrice says ...
Like thatsamkid said..... WHAT? Like I say this was brought to my attention by someone much more knowledgeable in this than me. Please can you clarify Patrice? Thanks Never give up, never quit, if you havent bled you haven't earnt it. |

| Posted about 1 year ago thank you Dreme and Whitey for bringing this to my attention, i dont no why i forgot that there is two people workin together, i.e the shooter and spotter. and also if the question 'pertaining' (i think this is the right word) to people around disliking intently (still dont understand that question), does it mean people around me disliking me intently? and why? |

I think thats what he's getting at. You'll have to ask Patrice, if he decides to reply. I wouldn't know to be honest but I wouldn't see why they'd be intensley disliked personally. I'm sure a patrol would be thankful for the presence of a sniper. Never give up, never quit, if you havent bled you haven't earnt it. |
