Poll: Should the Special Forces Kiss and Tell?

The Independent recently learned that General Stanley McChrystal, leading Western troops in the war against the Taliban, received a complaint from the UK’s Director of Special Forces (DSF) after he broke the SAS’s code of silence and spoke about the missions mounted by the SAS and their Royal Marines equivalent, the SBS, in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The argument is, should the cat be let out of the bag in the public interest or should we wait longer to reveal such things?

Apart from the fact that we're not sort of forced to show our hand via loony EU public disclosure and privacy laws.

An interesting one this.

I think the present way things are handled is probably about right.

There is enough put into the public domain to give a hint of what goes on but a lack of detail that maintains an air of mystery leading to myth and legend.

Only those who are truly in the know have accurate and detailed knowledge of certain acts and events what we get to hear about i doubt scratches the surface in many many cases.

There should be a degree of information release in order to spread that little bit of trepidation and reputation amongst those who are likely to be unfortunate enough to have to do battle with our elite.

It not a bad thing to remind our foes; we have the best in the business and they are likely to come looking, find and deal with you.

This is a bloody pointless question. It is not in public interest in what the SF get up to, the entire concept of having special forces is their activites remain secretive.

Remain secret? You having a laugh? Like Ryan and Mcnab and others never mentioned anything about their activities or McNally going on TV and showing his identity?

Get a life. Wake up and taste the coffee.

May I add.

The SBS isn't the Royal Marine aquivalent at all, their might be a large number of them in our group, but over half are Navy personnel with technical trades.

Thats just as bad at saying the SAS is full of Para's.

Rubbish
