Posted about 1 year ago hi i hope someone can help somehow. a friend of mine recently told me that he had been called up as a marine reserve to be deployed to Afghanistan as a medic (he's a paramedic in civilian life) & apparantly he flew out on wednesday. However i'm a bit sceptical as some of the things he has said seem very vague (i know its a high security risk, but he doesn't seem to know answers to simple questions. also when i asked him for his service number and bfpo number so i could write to him he said i will get them for me - surely for someone who has just completed their pre deployment training they would have been told that? as i am sceptical i tried to ring his mobile on thursday and it was switched on and ringing out. i may not be forces educated but i do know that mobile phones are not allowed in Afghanistan theatres. i was just wondering if any of you guys could indicate to me for sure whether my friend is telling me the truth or spinning me a story (as i believe). thanks sarah |

| Posted about 1 year ago Hey sarah. Welcome to the forums! This is an interesting one. Never known anyone to lie about being on a current tour. He may not know his bfpo number yet but he should definatley know his service number. Ask to see his mod 90 (forces ID card) and what company he's in. Also if he's been on PDT he'll have been very busy for a fem month.

| Posted about 1 year ago thanks for your reply, to be honest i can't see either why anyone would want to tell stories about something as serious as this, and if he is that is so disrespectful to the guys and girls out there and to the families of those who have lost their lives. there are alot of things that are not quite adding up but i know that he will have questions to answer when he answers his phone. it also seems odd that i have an idea of the bfpo number before him (went on bfpo website and also contacted them to make sure)and also when i said that the marine unit out there right now have been there a while already he didn't seem to know which one it is and said he doesn't know why they would ask him to go? weird? anyway thanks again, will be going by my gut instinct hehe! sarah |

Hope this helps! er most of us are on PDT (with still a few months to go) just now and the current Herrick is far from over...... maybe he is on a short tour, heard a few doing that...medic teams do shorter tours....not the best job in the service :(

| Posted about 1 year ago hi guys, hope you are ticking along nicely. i haven't been on here for a little while. i have actually found out that my friend was actually spinning a story, but for what reason i have no idea at the moment. i am not angry or mad, have gone past that point, i just would like the truth and think i do deserve it.. i'm sorry that a guy who claimed to be something he isn't has disrespected you guys and also the guys and girls who are out in afghanistan as well as the ones who didn't make it. i'm not exactly sure what to do right now but i thank you guys who have given their viewpoint and good luck for the future sarah |

| Posted about 1 year ago thanks guys, i have had a think about what he's done and although its extremely disrespectful and saddening to you guys and to us civvies i have to admit i have had a chuckle to myself over his stupidity and naivety and him thinking i wouldn't do some research, he obviously knows nothing about me and is so insecure he has to lie to make himself feel better. his mother must be so proud. take care sarah

| Posted about 1 year ago whitey14uk - if you want to speak with him i will give you his number, after all he got himself in this pickle. anyway his employer thought i'd lost the plot when i contacted them to say he had gone, his manager said thats odd as he is at another station working. so they are not too chuffed either but i don't think they have said anything to him yet. |
