Posted over 2 years ago So i have been wondering, why we do not have an women subs, since women are not allowed on male subs. Whats the answer to this question... I don want the nuclear reactor mallarchy rubbish. If i was given the chance i would love to be a female sub lol Team work is not defined by a group of people who work at the same place together, but by a group of people who work together at the same place..... |

| Posted over 2 years ago they actually have subs over in Faslane that were adapted for women to serve in. they trialled it in the 60s i think it was and for whatever reason they decided that it was a bad idea for women to servie in submarines. They also did a poll of women in the RN just over 18 months ago with their views on serving in submarines (I had a survey to fill out, thats why i know that!) but i dont know what the outcome was.

| Posted over 2 years ago I believe that they fitted one of the bombers, V Boats, out to be a twin sex boat but all of the surveys and attitude reports seem to have come back as a big no. I don't think that many women are that interested and those that are,and this is where I normally get branded as sexist and a big row starts, want to do it to prove something. Hopefully the ones who are going to get annoyed by that last statement will read up to this bit when I say the Sir Ranulph Fiennes went to the top of Everest to prove something so I am not trying to start a fight. I can see them having a twin sex boat in the not too distant future but I am afraid that, apart from the messing and quartering problems, that "Nuclear Reactor Mallarchy Rubbish" is going to be the one stumbling block to women serving on boats. The MOD is not going to face the legal backlash of any birth defects in female Submariners children even if the female signs a waiver. The MOD has been stung too many times to allow that to happen again. So until they bring back Diesel Submarines, and then even I might try rejoining, I cannot see women at sea on Submarines. Sorry. |

| Posted over 2 years ago honestly wat do men have that women have not seen before, and what do women have that men have not seen before. Because the major highlight of this is quarters. Nothing wrong with seeing a bit of flesh is there. ha ha Team work is not defined by a group of people who work at the same place together, but by a group of people who work together at the same place..... |

| Posted over 2 years ago Personally, i think that women on subs is a bad idea. I know from personal experience what women are like on board ships and there are always some that try and get out of doing jobs and when they argue they very often drag the lads into choosing a side, onboard ship you can escape to the top deck to calm down or get away from it all, on subs i dont think there is anywhere to hide!!
Just my personal opinion of course |

| Posted over 2 years ago Fisetyamber, I have had the "we have all seen each others bits" arguement when I was on leadership course at HMS Excellent. We had to share a lot of the ablutions with the girls on course and more than a few of them saw mine and I saw a few of theirs as well. The problem with submarines is not that we will be flashing each other at every occassion, it is the very nature of the facilities. The JRs on a fleet, or attack, Submarine get the following: 3 in niumber traps (toilets) 2 for poo, 1 for wee (seat removed) 4 in number sinks. 2 in number shower cubicles. 1 is for showering in the other (depending on the boat) is used as a canteen store/cleaning store or to store the Chief stokers firefighting maintenance equipment. The SRs get both showers to use but only 2 traps and the wardroom get 2 traps, 1 sink and 1 shower. They do get sinks in their cabins though. Also in the JRs head you cannot walk directly from the door to the trap even if there isn't someone in the way as the gap between the shower and sinks is to narrow. It gets very friendly if you need the toilet at watch handover. That is if you don't have water restrictions. Then you tend to walk in and find someone stood stark naked trying to have a bath in a sink. This is before we go on about hotbunking. This is the way we get around the lack of beds by the guy that is coming off watch gets into the bed that his relief has just got out of. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Fiesty, till you have served on a boat, let alone seen the inside of one, trust me, it's no place for a lass. The blokes just about get on with it. Add a few lasses to the mix ?!?!?!?!?! That's one boat I'd shy away from ! |

You're right Griff - there's only so much you can discuss about this subject and then you end up having to be discreet and get accused of refusing to cooperate. Civilians do not understand the implications of Per - and Op - Sec while there are things you would never openly discuss on a forum simply because it is uncomfortable for you to do so. Fiestyamber will have to take it all on face value until she's actually serving and then will understand how things operate. In addition, ask former Female members of the RN if you don't agree with what males claim about Submariners. Cooperation destroys Confrontation |

| Posted over 2 years ago Tommo i was asking Submariners on the Sub i am serving on if they had ever seen the results of the Survey. Not one of them had heard of such a Survey. Stewart you are absolutely right i can only discuss certain things due to Ops constraints and thank you for pointing that out. Taking this a step further and maybe stop some of the rumours about the new Astute class submarines in build,i phoned a mate of mine who is undergoing training on the Astute,to the best of his knowledge there are no plans to accomodate Females onboard that class of Submarine at this moment in time. This subject if you google it is widely debated on the internet, one thing that sticks out as far as i can see and maybe someone would comment on this.A lot of Submariners wives/girlfriends are quite rightly in my opinion worried that in cramped conditions and for long periods submerged their husbands might be tempted. That may seem strange but i do remember when Females were first allowed to serve on ships i was sceptical too that seems to have worked ok, However human nature being what it is there have been a few Marital casualties.

| Posted over 2 years ago Hi, I am a reporter for British Forces TV, looking for people to interview on this subject. It would be great to speak to a woman who would like to serve on a sub - especially as that may be possible one of these days. (A decision on whether women can serve on subs is due later this month.) Let me know and I can come to you - remember we're the friendly face of the media! Cheers, Victoria.

Marital casualties happen in any walk of life and if a sub is so cramped then surely there wouldnt be anywhere to get cosy with a member of the opposite sex! I am neither for or against women on subs but I bow to you Navy types knowledge on this one. The results of the latest survey will no doubt be very interesting, and not to everyones liking!
Women should be obscene and not heard! Never regret what you have done, only what you havent!!!! |

| Posted about 1 year ago would be great in a perfect world - but living on a boat is anything but.. we don't have the space or facilities to accommodate our fairer counterparts. Maybe in the new boats it will possible but not with what we have currently. The fact is our wives all hate the idea too and i do what i'm told to do otherwise i don't get fed when i'm shoreside. I would really hate to see the mess degrade into an absolutely intolerable 'PC' area that it would have to become or we'd all be kissing goodbye to those pensions. The lifestyle is difficult enough period and it would be a shame to unnecessarily strain that. |
